Design and implementation of the net zero displacement filter for the synthesis of a mechanical shock signal under specified shock response spectrum

•A new class of filter is proposed, which have a concise expression and can satisfy the net zero displacement change condition.•A time history synthesis method is proposed, which can well match any given SRS specification within ±3 dB margin.•Synthesised shocks are similar to given existing field measurements.
