Evaluation of ALA-PDT combined with antibiotics for the treatment of skin ulcers with sinus tract formation: A pilot study

•We applied photodynamic therapy with optical fiber to treat a series of skin ulcers with sinus tract formation.•Our innovative use of optical fiber as a light source in PDT treatment facilitated the full penetration of the sinus tract.•ALA-PDT shortened the treatment time of skin ulcers and sinus tracts, reduced the patient's pain, and achieved good results.•Photodynamic Therapy will become a new and promising method to treat refractory skin ulcers and sinus tracts.
