CAUSES, mortality rates and risk factors of death in community-dwelling Europeans aged 50 years and over: Results from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe 2013–2015

•The crude mortality rate in people over 50 was 18.39 (1000 people-years at risk).•Risk factors: age, perceived health, cognition, male, ADL deficits, comorbidity.•Diseases: cancer, dementia, depression, fractures, stroke, chronic lung, diabetes, heart.•Comorbidity and depressive symptoms were common factors with higher risk.
