New low-cost ceramic microfiltration membrane made from natural magnesite for industrial wastewater treatment

•Novel low-cost ceramic microfiltration membrane made from natural magnesite.•The effect of sintering on magnesite membrane properties was investigated.•The optimized magnesite membrane showed a high turbidity removal of 99.9 %.•Four fouling models were used to fit flux decline during filtration of textile wastewater.
