Serial changes in longitudinal strain are associated with outcome in children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome

•Hypoplastic left heart syndrome still carries high mortality and morbidity.•Systemic right ventricle dysfunction is one of the major causes of the poor outcome.•Speckle tracking echocardiography is accurate in right ventricular function assessment.•Serial evaluations may precociously identify patients with poor prognosis.
