Comparison in characteristic and atomization behavior of metallic powders produced by plasma rotating electrode process

•Characteristics of various PREP powders were investigated.•Spherical particles, satellite particles and irregular particles are observed.•Particle size is smaller in alloy with low ratio of surface tension and density, γ/ρ.•Fewer satellite, irregular particles in alloy with high γ/ρ and high thermal conductivity.
