•Modified dolomite (MD) was found to be the most performant adsorbent for As(V) removal.•Removal of As(V) was attained 99.9% and 99.6% in batch and column tests (after 112 days).•The use of MD must require pH control and final adjustment.•Fe-loaded activated biochar presented lower performance for As treatment compared to MD.
