Exploring the use of an AC-DC-AC technique for the accelerated evaluation of anticorrosion performance of anodic films on aluminium alloys

•An AC-DC-AC method to evaluate corrosion performance of aluminium alloy was devised.•Alkalinisation from cathodic polarization resulted in the attack of the porous anodic oxide.•A qualitative correlation was found between the electrochemical and immersion testing.•A faster estimation of corrosion performance compared to immersion test can be achieved.
