A lightweight face detector by integrating the convolutional neural network with the image pyramid

•The network is integrated with the image pyramid to fully utilize features.•The most effective anchors are analyzed and preserved to reduce redundancy.•The over hard training samples degrade the training result for a lightweight network.•The model employs an extremely tiny network and still achieves high detection accuracy.
