Organo-montmorillonites as adsorbent materials for thiophanate-methyl removal: adsorption-desorption studies and technological applications

•Thiophanate-methyl (TM) adsorption was improved with the use of organo-Mt.•Surfactant loading content generated two different interactions between TM and organo-Mt.•Hydrophobic interactions predominantly occur at low surfactant contents.•Strong interactions driven by water bridges also appear at high surfactants contents.•Efficient TM removal was found by columns filters containing organo-Mt.
