Oxidative Stress Inhibition by Resveratrol in Alcohol Dependent Mice

•Chronic alcohol consumption determines metabolic and pathologic alterations mainly owing to the oxidative stress in mice.•Resveratrol (3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a nonflavonoid phenol with antioxidant properties.•Resveratrol consumption prevents the formation of free oxygen radicals measured in the serum of alcohol-dependent mice.•Resveratrol metabolites counteract alcohol-induced alteration of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the liver, which is a target tissue of alcohol intoxication.
