Metal recovery from waste printed circuit boards: A review for current status and perspectives

•The whole process of WPCBs recycling is covered and reviewed in this article.•Pretreatment is essential and can remove 90% of the components and delaminate WPCBs.•Enrichment process of metals is proved to improve the recovery efficiency.•A variety of metal recycling methods are reviewed and compared with pros and cons.•Novel hybrid processes are envisioned and suggested for future metal recycling.
