Actionable recommendations for narrowing the science-practice gap in open science

•Openness and transparency are critical for all scientific fields.•Questionable research practices (QRPs) damage the credibility of scientific knowledge.•Efforts to promote open science are driven by a need to reduce QRPs so that scientific knowledge is more transparent and credible.•We identify the existence of a science-practice gap to explain why open-science practices have not been embraced on a global and massive scale.•We offer 10 actionable recommendations for narrowing the science-practice gap in open science that require little effort, time, and financial resources.
