Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the newly identified strain of the coronavirus family severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has rapidly evolved into a worldwide pandemic and caused a public health emergency of major international concern.1,2 As a result, a profound reorganisation of hospital wards and clinical activities is happening worldwide to deal with the increasing number of COVID-19-positive patients who require hospitalisation and intensive care support.
