To the Editor: The Treat Stroke to Target trial (Jan. 2 issue),(1) which was conducted in France and South Korea, showed that patients with low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels of less than 70 mg per deciliter had fewer cardiovascular events than those with LDL cholesterol levels of 90 to 110 mg per deciliter after a stroke. However, the incidence of cardiovascular events among Korean patients was similar in the two groups (hazard ratio, 1.11; 95% confidence interval, 0.57 to 2.15). A U-shaped relationship between cholesterol levels and the incidences of cardiovascular events and death from cardiovascular causes has been reported . . .
