•We reviewed literature on Ultrasound (US) imaging and therapy in Psychiatry.•We found 81 studies using various US techniques in various mental disorders.•US have been mostly used to characterize the pathophysiology of mental disorders.•US imaging has the potential to provide biomarkers for mental disorders.•Preliminary findings suggest therapeutic options with US for mental disorders.
