Functional ear reconstruction strategies for microtia with congenital aural stenosis in seventy-six patients.

The aim of this study was to recommend optimal functional ear reconstruction strategies for microtia with congenital aural stenosis. Modified meatoplasty with endoaural-conchal incision was the core technique of our functional ear reconstruction strategies. If meatoplasty is performed first, it does not appear to significantly increase the risk of skin flap necrosis and infection after autologous cartilage microtia reconstruction. If autologous cartilage microtia reconstruction is performed first, it does not appear to significantly increase the risk of infection and cholesteatoma formation. We recommend performing autologous cartilage microtia reconstruction first in patients with congenital aural stenosis without cholesteatoma and meatoplasty first in patients with congenital aural stenosis with cholesteatoma.
