•Among 788 patients included in the CRITICS trial, 172 (22%) were older adults.•Preoperative and postoperative treatment compliance were poorer in older adults.•The proportion of patients who underwent curative surgery was equal.•An exclusive neo-adjuvant approach should be considered in older adults.
