•β-CD-MnFe2O4 catalyst was synthesized via facile co-precipitation.•The catalyst exhibited excellent performance with good stability and reusability.•2,4-DCP could be rapidly degraded within a broad pH range of 5–11.•The catalyst exhibited excellent superparamagnetic properties.•The catalyst showed excellent resistance to humic acid.
