Control Strategy to Mitigate Risk of Hybrid HVDC Continuous Commutation Failure

The mechanism of continuous commutation failure of HVDC is analyzed and harmonic is considered to be one of the reasons for the continuous commutation failure of HVDC during restoration after AC fault. The harmonic voltage compensation component is added to the link to improve the reactive power support of the MMC-HVDC to the AC system during recovery. Thereby mitigate the risk of occurrence of continuous commutation failure. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified on PSCAD/EMTDC.
