•p-Xylene and butyl butyrate were selected to separate ethyl acetate + n-heptane.•The VLE data for the systems (ethyl acetate/n-heptane + solvents) were measured.•The measured VLE data were correlated by the NRTL, UNIQUAC and Wilson models.
