Synthesis, antimicrobial and chitinase inhibitory activities of 3-amidocoumarins.

•Novel series of 3-amidocoumarins has been synthesized.•Antimicrobial activity was evaluated against six bacterial and three fungal strains.•Compounds 5l, 8b and 8f showed significant antimicrobial activity with low MIC values.•Compound 5l with IC50 value of 3.74 µM was the most potent chitinase inhibitor.•Compound 5l has shown the lowest binding energy value of −8.44 Kcal/mol.
