Molecular characterisation of multi-drug resistant Escherichia coli of bovine origin.

•12 bovine E. coli were sequenced and their ST types identified in silico, none were associated with epidemic STs of virulence clonal complexes.•Every sequenced isolate showed mutations within gyrA, conferring resistance to fluoroquinolones.•These isolates also show hetereogeneity in biofilm formation.•Zebrafish embryo infection studies show that E. coli isolates of bovine origin are pathogenic.
