Large scanning range optical phased array with a compact and simple optical antenna

We demonstrate a 32-wire optical phased array with a compact and simple optical antenna. It achieves a lateral (Ψ axis) scan of ±48.5° by phase modulation with a beamwidth of 2.3° × 2.8°. In addition, the proposed OPA can also achieve longitudinal (θ axis) scanning by adjusting the operating wavelength. When the wavelength is changed from 1.5um to 1.6um, the spot is steered 17.1° in the longitudinal axis.
