Numerical investigation on vapor-liquid two-phase compression in the cylinder of rotary compressors

•Proposed a model to predict liquid slugging in the cylinder of rotary compressors.•Conducted the law of phase change of refrigerant in the cylinder.•Discussed the valve displacement under different conditions.•Reduction of rotation speed can eliminate liquid slugging.•Liquid slugging of R290 is weaker than R22 and R410A under the same conditions.
