Integration of silica with benzoxazine to improve particle dispersion and thermal performance of composites

Silica particles are traditionally added to bio-based polybenzoxazine matrix in order to alleviate the thermal, mechanical and dielectric performance of materials. However, the inorganic filler shows poor interaction with the resin and exhibits a concentration gradient and heterogeneous dispersion in the composite, leading to inferior properties. The aim of the present work is to enhance the dispersion of silica particles in the bio-based benzoxazine resin using surface chemistry, impact of which is observed on the thermal performance of the composite.
