A novel carbazole-based hydrogen-sulfide donor suppresses seizures and upregulates ATP-sensitive potassium channels

•We synthetized a novel carbazole-cased H2S donor that provided low and stable H2S without significant biological toxicity.•The H2S donor exerted an anti-epileptic effect similar to that of traditional H2S donors.•The anti-epileptic effect may be related to the upregulation of Kir6 and SUR1 in neurons.
