摘要

•Polycrystalline Al and Zn samples were irradiated with Ar+ ions.•Electron work function was measured by the Kelvin method.•The work functions vary with DPA change along a maximum curve.•The results were interpreted in terms of the Wigner-Seitz radii.•The extremal behaviour is thought to be related to annealing.
