摘要
•The detailed environmental stability of surface chemical reactivity of CrXTe3 has been explored.•The optical contrast decreases, and surface roughness and thickness increase with exposure time.•CrSiTe3 nanosheets degrade almost immediately after exposure to air.•CrGeTe3 nanosheets above 11 nm can be air stable for 24 h.•The first formation of amorphous Te and TeOx and subsequently TeO2 have been shown.
