摘要

•Heating in air at 800 °C results in a high vapor pressure of PtO2.•A thin film of catalyst allows Pt loss to the vapor phase to be quantified.•Loss of Pt from La-Al2O3 and MgAl2O4 supports is rapid and leads to formation of large particles.•No Pt is lost from CeO2 because Pt is present as Pt2+ ions and atomic dispersion is maintained.
