Krill diel vertical migration: A diagnostic for variability of wind forcing over the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas

•Echo intensities were measured in the western Beaufort Sea by acoustic Doppler current profilers.•Echo intensities were analyzed for characteristic patterns of krill diel vertical migration.•Daily and seasonally-averaged diel vertical migration indices were derived.•Relationships among these indices and local and regional wind regimes were diagnosed statistically.
