Assessing the fundamental host-range of Leptinotarsa texana Schaeffer as an essential precursor to biological control risk analysis

•We attempted to circumscribe the fundamental host-range of Leptinotarsa texana.•The fundamental host-range is now expanded to include Potato and Archaesolanum.•We consider why earlier work did not include Potato in the fundamental host-range.•We argue there are important differences between modern potato cultivars.•We recommend thorough cultivar selection, justification and reporting.
