摘要
Objective Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) participate in antitumor immunity. This study evaluated the relation of CD8+ TIL with clinicopathologic parameters in adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of salivary glands. Study Design Cross-sectional and observational research. The sample consisted of 44 cases of ACC diagnosed between 2008 and 2016 at a reference hospital in oncology. Clinicopathologic parameters were obtained from medical records. Immunohistochemistry was used to identify CD8+ cells in peri- and intratumoral areas. CD8+ TILs were measured semiquantitatively according to Ward et al. (2013): 1 = 20%, 2 = 20%-80%, and 3 = u003e 80% of stroma and also using cut-off obtained by receiver operating curve considering recurrence as variable outcome (P = .03). Fisher exact test and Mann-Whitney test (P Results Most of ACCs were classified as score 1 or CD8+ TIL low (n = 31; 70%). The peritumoral CD8+ TIL/mm2 varied from 1.04 to 1891.7 and 1.04 to 86.36 in the intratumoral areas. There was significant association of CD8+ TIL low in both areas with recurrence (P = .02). No evidence of association with the others clinicopathologic parameters was observed. Conclusion The ACC presents a low cytotoxic T lymphocyte infiltrate that has resulted in a greater recurrence of this neoplasia. Support: FAPEG 201710267000510.
