•Sulfur of the Larong W-Mo deposit is of magmatic origin.•In-situ trace elemental and Pb isotopic compositions indicate a crustal origin.•Fluid-rock interaction might be the key factor resulting in the W-Mo mineralization.•Three stages of W-polymetallic metallogenic events have been identified in the BNMB.
