Risk of oral clefts in relatives of patients with prostate cancer: case-control study
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, and Oral Radiology(2020)
摘要
Objective To evaluate the occurrence of nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate (NSCL/P) in first-degree relatives of patients with prostate cancer (PC). Study Design This is a case-control study conducted in a population of PC survivors from 2014 to 2017. The sampling was performed by convenience, and the groups were matched concerning age. The information collected was stored in a database and analyzed using the program SPSS 19.0. To determine the association with cancer, chi-square and Fisher exact test were used; α = 0.05. The study was approved by the ethics committee. Results A total of 863 patients were interviewed; 281 were in the case group and 582 were in the control group. The frequency of NSCL/P in first-degree relatives was 1.2% (n = 10) in the studied population, with 2 individuals in the case group (0.7%) and 8 (1.4%) in the control. For a family history of NSCL/P, there was no significant correlation (P = .42; Fisher test, P = .56). Conclusion The study showed that there is no relation between the occurrence of NSCL/P in relatives of patients with PC in the studied population. More studies are necessary to better understand the relation between cancer and NSCL/P.
