20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid alters endothelial cell barrier integrity independent of oxidative stress and cell death.

•Increased exposure to 20-HETE decreases barrier integrity in cultured BAEC.•Decreased endothelial barrier integrity was associated with increased reactive metabolites and decreased total glutathione.•The antioxidants, vitamin E and selenium improved endothelial cell barrier function in the presence of 20-HETE.•The loss of endothelial barrier integrity is consistent with changes in redox parameters.
