•Novel cell model of PAH developed based on application of pulsatile mechanical stretch.•IMD/AM2 co-expressed with AM and receptor components in human PMVEC, PAEC, PF and PSM.•Expression and release of IMD/AM2 from PF and PSM increased by pulsatile mechanical stretch.•IMD/AM2 inhibited PDGF-mediated migration of PSM.•IMD/AM2 attenuated PF proliferation due to angiotensin II and simulated hypertension.
