Glomerulosclerosis identification in whole slide images using semantic segmentation

•Sequential CNN segmentation-classification strategy entails a relevant solution for glomerulosclerosis detection.•Study for the first time of the use of semantic segmentation to perform a glomerulosclerosis detection.•Detection of glomeruli and classification into normal and sclerotic glomeruli with an accuracy of 98%.•Characterization of glomeruli into normal and sclerotized using deep learning for the first time.
