Fabrication of recyclable magnetic double-base aerogel with waste bioresource bagasse as the source of fiber for the enhanced removal of chromium ions from aqueous solution

•A new type of material magnetic double-base aerogel was synthesized.•Magnetic nanoparticles are evenly distributed on the surface of sugar cane fibers.•FBC has good environmental and economic value in removing Cr(VI) from wastewater.•The adsorption mechanism of FBC aerogel on Cr(VI) was systematically proposed.
