•BOP-1 can separate CO2/CH4 with a selectivity of 568 at 0.02 bar.•BOP-1 shows a expansion/shrinkage transformation for CO2 adsorption/desorption.•The flexible –CH2–NH– linker contributes to the flexibility of BOP-1.
