Internal double-J stent was associated with a lower incidence of ureteroileal anastomosis stricture than external ureteral catheter for patients undergoing radical cystectomy and orthotopic neobladder: A systematic review and meta-analysis

•Improvement in techniques of procedures played a role in lowering the ureteroileal anastomosis stricture (UIAS) rate.•Internal double-J stent placement was associated with a lower incidence of UIAS than external ureteral catheter.•A trend of a shorter hospital stay was detected among the group of double-J stent than external ureteral catheter group.•Internal double-J stent may be favored in the view of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS).
