Portable Bluetooth Microsystem for Electrochemically Modulated Nitric Oxide-Releasing Catheters

In this paper, an emerging technology for preventing thrombosis and bacterial infections associated with medical implants is presented. A prototype of a battery-powered microsystem facilitating the release of nitric oxide (NO) from intravenous catheters is demonstrated. Results of an animal study showing the efficacy of the antimicrobial/thromboresistant catheters are presented. The next generation microsystem with a wireless interface is also introduced.
