•Cardiovascular drug use was slightly more common among persons with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) until the AD diagnosis date.•After AD diagnosis, the prevalence of cardiovascular drugs declined in persons with AD.•The decline of the prevalence may reflect the change in the care of persons with AD.
