Real-Time Economic Dispatch and Subinterval Coordination Strategy to Benefit System Operations

This paper proposes a real-time economic dispatch method and a subinterval coordination strategy, which are able to minimize the generation cost of power systems and benefit system operations with large-scale renewable power integration. First, renewable power (wind and concentrated solar photovoltaic power) is modeled using versatile mixture distribution model. Second, a real-time economic dispatch model with renewable power integration is established. Using the equal incremental fuel costs of renewable power and conventional power, the real-time dispatch scheme is obtained. A subinterval coordination strategy of conventional power plants is presented to cope with potential frequency risks caused by the stochastic nature of renewable power. At last, a case study on IEEE 39-bus system and its numerical experiments in RTDS are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
