摘要
Obesity and severe obesity are increasingly prevalent in the United States. Epidemiological studies have shown an association between obesity and mortality in multiple myeloma (MM) (Br J Haematol 2014;166:667-676). Autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (autoPBSCT) remains a crucial element in the treatment of MM. There is limited data analyzing the relationship between severe obesity and transplant outcomes in MM patients in the era of modern therapy, routine post-transplant maintenance, and genetic-based risk stratification. In addition, there is concern that this population is underdosed as many institutions adjust melphalan dosing for body weight, which could potentially lead to earlier relapse.
