Stochastic-deterministic response matrix method for reactor transients

•Stochastic-deterministic response matrix method for reactor transient analyses is presented.•The response functions are calculated during a set of Monte Carlo criticality calculations.•Deterministic set of equations is formulated for solving a space–time dependent problem.•The method is demonstrated on two absorber assembly movement transients in a mini-core geometry.
