Sulfur and nitrogen compounds in wet atmospheric deposition on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico from 2003 to 2015.

•The Gulf of Mexico region has important sources of acid rain precursors.•The pH values at Mexican sampling site were similar to the U.S. sites.•At the Mexican site, SO42-/NO3- ratio was higher than in the U.S. sites.•Acidic deposition has a major contribution from the SO2 emission sources.•It is necessary to extend the atmospheric deposition sampling to other sites.
