摘要
•Sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate (STS) improves perfusion recovery in experimental peripheral arterial disease (PAD) model with diabetes, but not in PAD models without diabetes.•STS decreases expression of microRNA-133a, a diabetes-induced microRNA, in ischemic muscle tissue and endothelial cells in diabetes.•STS increases angiogenesis and nitric oxide production, and decreases reactive oxygen species in diabetic and hypoxic endothelial cell through microRNA-133a and its target, guanosine triphosphate cyclohydrolase 1.
