Effects of anagliptin on plasma glucagon levels and gastric emptying in patients with type 2 diabetes: an exploratory randomized controlled trial versus metformin.

•Metformin (1000 mg) and anagliptin (200 mg) improved glycemic control similarly.•Anagliptin slightly decreased the incremental AUC of plasma glucagon during the meal test.•Anagliptin increased early plasma levels of active GLP-1, active GIP and C-peptide.•Neither anagliptin nor metformin caused any delay of gastric emptying.
