Determining hydraulic characteristics in laterals and drip irrigation systems

•Proposed methods allow to characterize the hydraulic response in real installations.•In the field, the parameters determinate can be more representative.•In self-compensating emitters is convenient carry out tests with open end.•The equivalent length seems to have a better response than the friction coefficient.•The unit can be characterized like an emitter: pressure-discharge and uniformity.
